About Clearview Skylights

We plan every rooflight around the view from where you actually sit or lie, backed by a sightline sketch and a 10-year workmanship guarantee.

Nothing between you and the sky

Clearview Skylights is a rooflight and skylight installer working across Peterborough and about 30 miles around it. We plan every job around one question: what will you actually see when you lie in bed, sit on the sofa or stand at the sink and look up? Most of the trade sells light. We start with the view, because the view is what you live with long after the roof is closed up again.

That means thinking about where the frame edge falls, where a glazing bar sits in your eyeline, how deep and how splayed the reveal is, and whether the glass will still be clear in five years or already misting at the edges. Light follows once those decisions are right. It rarely follows if they are wrong.

Why the view, and not just the light

A rooflight is the only window in most houses that you look up through rather than across. That changes what matters. A frame that would sit unnoticed at eye level in a wall window can cut straight across open sky when it is overhead. A single glazing bar can land dead centre in the line of sight from a pillow. A deep upstand with square linings can turn a wide roof into a narrow letterbox of sky.

We have seen enough of these get missed to make it our starting point rather than an afterthought. Frame width, bar layout, reveal shape and glass specification are decided from the eye position that matters in that room, not from a catalogue page.

It sounds like a small distinction next to "more light in the room", but it changes the order in which decisions get made. Instead of choosing a unit first and hoping the view works out, we start from where you will be when you look up, work out what a straight line from your eye to the sky actually needs to clear, and choose the frame, bar layout and reveal to suit that line. The unit comes last, once the sightline is settled.

Peterborough gives that approach somewhere useful to work. The Fens run flat to the east and north, so a rooflight placed and lined well here can frame open sky with nothing else in it. Around Stamford and the villages along the Nene, Collyweston stone slate and limestone call for slim, flush units where the sightline has to stay clean against an older roofline. Across the newer townships, Bretton, Orton, Werrington and Hampton, and the Fletton-brick terraces closer to the city centre, the work is loft conversions, flat-roofed extensions and replacement roof windows, where frame profile and reveal depth still decide what the finished view looks like.

The sightline sketch: what we show you before the roof is opened

Every quote comes with a sightline sketch: a drawing of the view from the place in the room that matters, whether that is the bed, the sofa, the sink or a desk. It shows where the frame edges land, where any glazing bars fall, how much sky is visible, and how the reveal opens or narrows that view. It is not a rendering or a mood board. It is a plain drawing, made from measurements taken on site, so you can see roughly what you are going to get before anyone touches the roof.

We think this matters more for a newer firm than an established one. A drawing of your own room, made to your own measurements, is proof we can offer from the first job we ever do, and it stays useful on every job after that.

Glass that stays clear

A view is only worth planning if the glass keeps it clear. That is the second thing we think about on every job: edge seals that will not fail early, self-cleaning outer coatings on low-pitch glazing where dirt and rain streaks are more likely to show, and a specification chosen to control internal condensation rather than fight it after the fact. None of this is exotic. It is ordinary glazing specification, applied properly and explained in plain terms rather than left as a line on a spec sheet you are expected to take on trust.

A tidy, lawful job

We install to current Building Regulations, and where a job is notifiable we handle the Building Control notification ourselves rather than leaving that step to you. Every installation is made good inside, and every job carries a 10-year workmanship guarantee. None of this is unusual for the trade done properly. We set it out plainly because it is exactly what we do, no more and no less.

What we install and replace

We cover roof glazing across the range a Peterborough roof is likely to need: roof lanterns over kitchen and dining extensions, flat roof rooflights, pitched roof windows, VELUX windows, electric and remote-opening rooflights, energy-efficient units for extensions and conversions, walk-on rooflights for terraces and roof gardens, conservation rooflights for listed and sensitive roofs, and sun tunnels for rooms too far from a roof line for a full-size unit. Where an existing unit has failed, misted between the panes or is simply past its working life, we handle replacement the same way: sightline first, specification second.

Our scope is installation and replacement. If a unit needs renewing because a seal has gone or a frame has moved, we treat that as a replacement job, planned and quoted the same as a new one, not as a quick patch. That includes pitched roof windows and VELUX windows going into rafters, and electric and remote-opening rooflights where a room needs ventilation as well as a view.

What it costs, and how a project starts

The price of a rooflight depends on the unit, the roof structure, access and how much internal finishing a job needs, and our costs guide sets out what actually moves the number, without pretending there is one fixed figure for every roof. The way a project usually starts is a home visit: we look at the roof and the room, talk through what you want to see and where you will be sitting or lying when you see it, take measurements, and follow up with a sightline sketch alongside the quote.

If you would like that visit, you can book a rooflight survey directly, or get in touch through our contact page with a rough idea of the room and the roof first. We work across the city and out to the surrounding towns and villages; our areas page lists where, and our guides and answers sections cover the detail of frame profiles, reveal shapes, glass specification and the planning questions that come up most, if you want to read further before we visit.
