Our 10-Year Skylight and Rooflight Installation Guarantee
Every rooflight and skylight we install carries our 10-year workmanship guarantee, covering our own fitting and sealing work alongside the manufacturer's warranty on the unit.
Two guarantees stand behind every job, not one
Every rooflight or skylight we install carries our own 10-year workmanship guarantee, and separately, whatever guarantee the manufacturer gives on the unit itself. The two are easy to muddle, and knowing which is which matters far more once the job is finished than it does on the day you sign off the quote.
Our workmanship guarantee is not insurance-backed. It is our own written commitment to the fitting, flashing, sealing and finishing work we carry out on your roof, for 10 years from the day the job is signed off. The manufacturer's product warranty, by contrast, covers the unit as made: the sealed glass unit, the frame, the opening mechanism on an electric rooflight, or the tube and diffuser on a sun tunnel. Its length and terms are set by the manufacturer, not by us, and the paperwork for it comes with the unit and stays with you at handover.
| Guarantee | Who stands behind it | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Workmanship guarantee | Clearview Skylights | Our fitting, flashing, sealing and finishing, for 10 years |
| Product warranty | The manufacturer | The unit itself: glass, frame, seals, motor or diffuser |
Neither one replaces the other. If the glass unit itself were ever to fail, that sits with the manufacturer's warranty. If the way it was fitted, sealed or lined into your roof were ever the issue, that sits with us.
What our workmanship guarantee actually covers
The guarantee is about the work our hands did, not the product a factory made. In practice, that means the following are ours to put right for 10 years, at no extra cost to you:
- The weathering detail around the unit: flashing, upstand or kerb, and the junction between the new glazing and your existing roof covering.
- The internal lining and reveal finish, including the plaster, boarding or splayed reveal we built to open up the view.
- The alignment and operation of any opening or electric unit we set into position and connected, so it opens, closes and seals as it should.
- The general making good of the room around the new rooflight, wherever our own work disturbed it.
If any of that fails to perform as it should within 10 years, because of how it was fitted rather than a fault in the product itself, we return and put it right. There is no separate paperwork to chase and no small print designed to trip you up: it is a plain undertaking tied to the job we carried out.
What sits with the manufacturer instead
Some faults are simply nothing to do with the fitting. A double-glazed unit that mists between the panes, for example, points to a failed factory seal inside the glass itself, not to how it was set into the roof. An electric rooflight that stops responding to its switch may point to the motor or control board, which the manufacturer built and warrants.
Where a fault like that shows up, it is covered by the manufacturer's own product warranty, and we will tell you plainly when that is the case rather than treat it as something our guarantee should stretch to cover. It is also why we keep the make and model of every unit we fit on file: so that if you ever do need to call on the manufacturer's warranty, we can point you to the right terms straight away.
Damage caused after our work is finished, whether from later building work by someone else, a blocked or covered vent, or movement elsewhere in the roof structure that our installation did not touch, also sits outside our workmanship guarantee. If you are ever unsure which side of that line a fault falls on, tell us what you are seeing and we will look at it and say plainly which guarantee applies.
Why Building Regulations and Building Control sit behind the guarantee
A workmanship guarantee is only as good as the standard the work was built to in the first place. We install every rooflight, roof window and lantern to current Building Regulations, covering things like thermal performance, safety glazing and, on flat roofs, the falls that keep water moving off the glazing rather than sitting on it.
Where the work is notifiable, we handle the Building Control notification as part of the job, rather than leaving it for you to sort out afterwards. That matters for the guarantee too: it means there is a clear, dated record of what was installed, to what standard, and by whom, which is exactly the reference point we return to if a workmanship issue is ever raised years later.
If something needs our attention within the 10 years
Using the guarantee is meant to be straightforward. Tell us what you have noticed, whether that is a draught around a frame, water finding its way to the wrong side of the flashing, or an opening unit that no longer sits flush when closed. We will ask a few questions, look at what was originally specified for your job, and arrange a time to come back and look properly.
If the cause turns out to be our workmanship, putting it right is on us, for the full 10 years, whether that is a fortnight after handover or nine years down the line. If the cause sits with the product itself, we will tell you and point you toward the manufacturer's own process for that unit. Either way, you are not left guessing which door to knock on.
The record we keep on file: your sightline sketch and specification
Every quote we give comes with a sightline sketch: a drawing of the view from the bed, sofa, desk or sink that matters in that room, showing where the frame edges and any bars fall and how the reveal opens up the sky. We keep that sketch on file alongside the specification of the unit fitted, the flashing detail used and the Building Regulations position for the job.
That record is not just a proof of the view we planned; it is also what lets us pick up a guarantee query years later and know exactly what was agreed and installed, without you having to dig out old paperwork or describe the job from memory.
The same guarantee, wherever you are around Peterborough
Our workmanship guarantee applies in the same way to every job we complete across Peterborough and the 30 miles around it: a loft conversion in a new-town township such as Bretton, Orton or Werrington, a flat-roofed kitchen extension on a Fletton-brick terrace in the city, or a slim conservation unit fitted into a Collyweston stone slate roof near Stamford. The guarantee does not change with the roof type or the postcode; only the detail of what was fitted does.
If you would like to see how the guarantee would apply to your own roof, book a rooflight survey and we will talk you through it alongside your sightline sketch. You can also read more about what affects the cost of a rooflight, browse VELUX window installation, electric and opening rooflight installation and misted and failed rooflight replacement, or see the full sightline sketch process. For more on the firm behind the guarantee, visit about Clearview Skylights, see areas we cover around Peterborough, or go back to the Peterborough homepage. If you have a specific question in mind, our rooflight and skylight questions answered and rooflight and skylight guides are a good place to start, and you can always contact Clearview Skylights directly.
